Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles Program
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) implemented a new emergency contact information system (ECI) that allows Florida motorists to voluntarily register emergency contact information online using their Florida driver licenses or Florida identification cards. The information can then be accessed by law enforcement officers to notify designated contacts if a person is seriously injured or killed in a traffic crash or for non-traffic related incidents as well.
To date, 1.3 million people have entered their information into the system but with over 15 million drivers in the state of Florida, the DHSMV has a long way to go to reach participation goals. Please take advantage of this invaluable service and give yourself a little piece of mind that you, a friend, or a loved one will be notified if ever involved in a traffic crash that involves critical injury or possibly death.
