Background
The Comprehensive Plan is a general policy document that views the community as a whole. It forms a basis for how a community regulates development and how it invests its infrastructure and services. In Florida, all local governments are required by state law to adopt a comprehensive plan. This plan must comply with state statutes and rules. The 2010 Future Land Use (FLU) Map (PDF) translates graphically the land use patterns and policies contained in the Comprehensive Plan.
By Florida’s state law, the City of Oviedo Comprehensive Plan shall have 9 mandatory elements:
- Future Land Use
- Traffic Circulation
- Housing
- Public Utilities like Wastewater, Solid Waste, Drainage and Natural Groundwater Aquifer Recharge, and Potable Water
- Conservation
- Recreation and Open Space
- Capital Improvements
- Intergovernmental Coordination
- Public Schools
Additional elements may also be considered in this Evaluation and Appraisal Report such as: Community Design, Redevelopment, Historic and Scenic Preservation, Economic Development and Water Conservation and Supply.
