Department of Homeland Security
National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS)
The Department of Homeland Security National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) is designed to guide our protective measures when specific information to a particular sector or geographic region is received. It combines threat information with vulnerability assessments and provides communications to public safety officials and the public.
The NTAS incorporates two distinct levels of alerting including:
Elevated Threat Alert warns a credible terrorist threat against the United States has been discovered.
Imminent Threat Alert warns a credible, specific, and impending terrorist threat against the Unites States is present.
The alerts will include specific information on protective measures for the level selected so local governments and citizens may incorporate protective measures as deemed appropriate.
